Fried Green Tomato Sandwich with Bacon and Goat Cheese - Sliced, coated in breadcrumbs and fried to golden brown, green tomatoes soften and sweeten with cooking and become a special treat. Here they are teamed with smoky Nueske’s bacon, a slathering of goat cheese, lettuce and caper mayo to make a great summer sandwich. Served with fries or vinaigrette-dressed greens.

Chicken Salad Sandwich - Boneless chicken breast rubbed with lemon zest and herbs is cooked, hand-chopped and mixed with minced raw vegetables, pecans, mayonnaise, a smidge of honey mustard and a titch of peach jam. The dressed chicken is scooped between warm toast, garnished with housemade marinated tomatoes and crisp lettuce, and served with fries or vinaigrette-dressed greens.

Salmon Burger - Brushed with a ginger-soy marinade, seared to a moist interior, served on a toasted kaiser roll slathered with spicy mayo and piled with sesame-lime slaw, this thick salmon patty makes a very tasty burger. Served with vinaigrette-dressed greens or hot fries.

Grilled Chicken and Watermelon Salad - Watermelon is an inspired companion to grilled chicken, and also to briny foods like dry-cured black olives and feta cheese. Here chunks of ripe watermelon line the plate, upon which we pile crunchy shredded cabbage, chopped olives and crumbled feta, hot grilled chicken, fresh herbs and a drizzle of fresh-squeezed citrus vinaigrette. Served with warm toast, this unusual and delicious salad is summer on a plate.
$11.95
Cream Cheese and Pecan Enchiladas - This variation is a New Mexican underground favorite and as inauthentic as it gets, with extremely delicious results. Fresh corn tortillas are rolled around cream cheese, pecan and scallion filling, doused with smoky, red chile gravy and baked to hot and bubbly. Served with vinaigrette-dressed greens as a bright-flavored, crisp salad-type counterpoint to the rich and earthy enchiladas.

Starters
Tuna Confit - This is one of Dave’s and my favorite things. It is a classic appetizer, great with wine and we’re betting it won’t sell worth a hoot. But we couldn’t help making it anyway. Thick pieces of fresh tuna are slowly poached in extra virgin olive oil with lemon zest, sliced garlic cloves and thyme sprigs. The tuna is gently broken up and lively seasonings are added—a drizzle of the lemony olive oil it’s cooked in, capers, dijon mustard, sherry vinegar, black pepper. It’s delicious mounded on to warm toast and is just a really nice, rustic appetizer. Served with Italian marinated cherry tomatoes and olives to nibble along side.

Spaghetti al Limone - The best spaghetti for hot weather: Zest and juice some lemons. Stir this together with extra virgin olive oil and tons of the best Parmigiano Reggiano you can find. Cook the spaghetti, drain and toss it with your lemony, cheeseful goodness. Shower with ribbons of fresh basil. Swoosh it into a warm bowl and lift the hot pasta with fork to mouth. Go to heaven.

Entrees
Pan-fried Walleye - Fresh out of Canadian Lake Erie, walleye pike is Ohio’s favorite dinner fish. And no wonder—mild and sweet with a delicate texture, I can hear it sizzling in frying pans all over the state. Here the fish is rolled in cornmeal, fried crispy on the griddle and served with celery sauce, a creamy, Southern-style tartar sauce flavored with minced celery, celery seed, green onion and lemon. Add buttermilk mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables and you’ve got Midwestern eating at its best.
$21.95
Grouper Veracruzana - Tomatoes, olives, capers, chiles, limes, cilantro—these are the flavors of Veracruz, a culinary melding of Spain and Mexico that is spicy, bold and sublime with fish. Here fresh grouper is sauteed Veracruz-style, the pan sauce poured over, and the dish served with steaming rice stirred together with a lot of spinach leaves and a little cheese.
$21.95
Grilled Hanger Steak - Juicy with a very meaty flavor, this delicious cut is perfect for summer eating. The beef is rubbed with spices, grilled, sliced and slathered with a spoonful of a steak butter made with an incredible, barrel-aged worcestershire sauce that tastes like none other you’ve had. We discovered it at DLM. They sell it under their name. Go get some! It goes with beef and butter in a most heavenly way. The steak is served with fresh vegetables and sauteed little yukon gold potatoes.
